I have said it a million times, I am one of what seems like a few, who truly loves the holidays. I love the hustle and bustle of shoppers and sightseers. I love the cozy warm nights. I love the atmosphere of lights and carols. I love everything about it.
Well, almost everything.
I do not love the pain and suffering that is all too frequent this time of the year. I don't like the guilt and dollar stretching. I don't like the tears and sorrow.
I know just how blessed I am. We may not have much, but we have enough. If we have extra, we share it. Isn't that the true spirit of this season? Giving. Giving without expectations. Giving selflessly.
There is a local organization that does just that. A Friend To Friend, out of Deerfield MA, was organized to help out families that are facing uncertain and rough financial times due to life limiting illnesses. They proved money and supplies to help keep the family afloat. They also work tirelessly planning and participating in community events and fundraisers and providing support to families in need. They are completely run by volunteers and keep no profits. This is a selfless organization with a heart of pure gold.
They, to me, embody what is right in the world. They embody what this holiday season is all about.
I know that money is an issue for a lot of people year round and the added stress of extra food and buying gifts can make for an impossible budget. Donating money may not even be a possibility for most of you. Luckily, A Friend To Friend has set up a couple ways you CAN help. The easiest way is to simply use this link: http://shop.afriendtofriend.com/ when shopping on Amazon. It'll bring you directly to Amazon's home page. You shop like you always do, even use your Prime membership. The only difference is that Amazon will donate a percentage of their profits with A Friend To Friend. Essentially, you get to donate without spending any extra. Everyone wins.
You can also go follow them on their Facebook page to find out about special events and fundraisers.
Please consider giving in some way, small or otherwise, this year. Remind those in their darkest hour that there is good in the world. That someone, somewhere cares. That they are loved and supported by their community and beyond.
I wish you all the happiest and warmest Holiday season.
